BNAC Appoints New Team of Officers

BNAC’s Annual General Meeting held on 17 April 2018 elected a new team of officers for four years as follows:

Chair: Dr Krishna Adhikari (Oxford University/Centre for Nepal Studies UK), General Secretary: Dr Punam Yadav (London School of Economics) and Treasurer: Dr Fraser Sugden (University of Birmingham).

The meeting, chaired by David Gellner, was held as part of the BNAC Nepal Study Days (Nepal Conference), in Dawson Building, Durham (Department of Anthropology, Durham).

Krishna Adhikari served the committee as the General Secretary before taking over from David Gellner as the Chair.

The meeting thanked the outgoing Chair, Treasurer Dr Celayne Heaton Shrestha, and executive committee member and founding Chairman Prof Surya Subedi for their service to the organisation. According to the BNAC constitution, David Gellner as the IPP is remaining in the executive board.

In the meeting it was reported that the 2018 Annual Lecture would be given by Joanna Pfaff-Czarnecka on 1 November 2018 at SOAS.

It was agreed to hold the 17th Nepal Study Days (Nepal Conference) in Edinburgh to be jointly organised by the University of Edinburgh and Royal Botanical Garden Edinburgh in 2019. 2020 Nepal Study Days (Nepal Conference) will take place in IoE, UCL, London.

The meeting also agreed to continue the PhD Dissertation Prize for 2019. This year the prize went to Dr Marina Korzenevica’s paper ‘Young People Navigating Political Engagement through Post-war Instability and Mobility: A Case from Rural Nepal’

The meeting thanked the out-going officers for everything they had done in their four year tenure, and also the organizers of the Durham Nepal Study Days (Nepal Conference).
